Cosmetic Dentistry

What is cosmetic dentistry?

Cosmetic dentistry aims to improve the appearance of the mouth and teeth to achieve a smile that you can be proud of. For example, you may not be happy with the shade or the shape of your teeth but this is something we can fix at Alvechurch Dental by using a variety of techniques and treatments including tooth coloured fillings, composite bonding, and veneers, onlays and crowns.

Tooth Coloured Fillings

Tooth coloured fillings have become the desired filling treatment option over the years. This is due to the composite resin material been so discreet and natural. Tooth coloured fillings are more aesthetically pleasing than metal fillings as the colour of the composite resin is matched to the natural tooth. The composite resin also bonds with the natural tooth which helps to restore the strength.

Composite Bonding

Composite bonding can be used to treat chipped teeth, gaps and discolouration. During the procedure a tooth-coloured resin is attached to the tooth and shaped to create the desired result. Composite bonding is a fast and non-invasive procedure which can usually be completed within one visit to the practice. It is a great, affordable way to transform your smile!

Veneers, Onlays and Crowns

We offer a range of porcelain onlays, crowns and veneers at Alvechurch Dental, the difference between these three treatments come down to the degree of coverage they offer. These options are laboratory made and the treatments are usually carried out over two visits to the practice.

If your tooth is broken or damaged a filling may not be strong enough to protect the tooth, this is where we would recommend a crown, which is a tooth shaped cover that is placed over the natural tooth. Crowns provide full coverage to the natural tooth which restores strength and appearance. The shade of the crown can be matched to the natural shade of the teeth creating a natural look.

Onlays are made to fit into the cavity of the tooth where they are then bonded into place, unlike a crown where the entire tooth is covered. Onlays create a strong and hard-wearing restoration that is virtually invisible, enhancing your natural smile.

Veneers are a thin tooth coloured porcelain shell which can be used to create a smile that is more aesthetically pleasing and attractive. A thin layer of enamel is removed from the natural tooth which will allow the veneer to sit correctly. Veneers are commonly used for cosmetic reasons as they do not add strength to the natural tooth.

What is tooth whitening?

Tooth whitening or tooth bleaching is the process of lightening the colour of human teeth. Whitening is often desirable when teeth become yellowed over time for a number of reasons, and can be achieved by changing the colour of the tooth enamel.

What we offer at the practice

At Alvechurch Dental we offer a system that is designed to fit in with your lifestyle. We have the day formula which requires 1.5hours wear time per day. We also have the overnight gel – this will whiten your teeth overnight as you sleep.

The tooth whitening procedure

It is so easy to get started on your whitening journey. Your dentist will take a mould from which we can precision manufacture your whitening trays. Once your trays have been made you can meet with your dentist to fit them and can begin your whitening journey by applying the gel to unveil your new, brighter and whiter smile.

Tooth whitening is not recommended if you have tooth coloured fillings and crowns on your front teeth. The tooth whitening material will not change the colour of these materials, making them stand out in your newly whitened smile.
